Agadir and its region contain another wealth unique in the world : the Argan tree .
A tree that is found almost nowhere else on the planet , but in Agadir's Forest .
The fame of this tree is increasingly important because of the precious oil it generates .
Qualified as an international Berber treasure or a green gold by manu-facturers of cosmetics, the virtues of this miracle oil are said to have more to prove.
In addition to ecological and physiological properties of the argan tree, nature has given everything,
or almost to this tree: wood, fodder, oil and other uses.
If alarm calls in favor of the argan tree have increased in recent years,
not only because this tree is in danger, but also and above all it's an economic resource to rehabilitate and promote .
The Argan (Argania spinosa, A.sideroxylon Roem.& Schult.) is a species of tree endemic to the calcareous semi-desert Sous valley of southwestern Morocco .
It is the sole species in the genus Argania .
Argan grows to 8-10 metres high, and live to 150-200 years old.
They are thorny , with gnarled trunks .
The leaves are small,2-4cm long, oval with a rounded apex.
The flowers are small, with five pale yellow-green petals;flowe-ring is in April .
The fruit is 2-5 cm long and 1,5-3 cm broad, with a thick, bitter peel surrounding a sweet-smelling but unpleasantly flavoured layer of pulpy pericarp.
This surrounds the very hard nut, which contains one (occasionally two or three) small,oil-rich seeds.
The fruit takes over a year to mature, ripening in june to july of the following year .
